I had to do my own makeup for a photoshoot this week so I thought I would share the “naked” look I went for.

The photographer requested a natural look with no bold colours so I instinctively reached for my Urban Decay Naked3 Palette and used “Strange”, “Limit” and “Nooner” to create the rose-hued neutral eye look. My brows are just a random brown eye pencil, but I like to go over the hairs of my eyebrows with my MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara for extra definition and I concealed with LA Girl HD Pro Conceal in “Warm Honey”.

I’m awful at applying false lashes so excuse me, and it completely slipped my mind what style these were but they are from JLASH (one of my favourite brands because of affordability).

My lip colour is Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in “Creme Bulee” for a soft buttery sheen and I used BH Cosmetics Wild and Radiant Baked Illuminating and Bronzing Palette to highlight (which you can read my review on here! )

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this quick Makeup Of The Day and please feel free to comment with any questions! I also want to apologize for the low quality of the photos as I only had my selfie camera to work with!

I’m currently on a beach house vacation, extremely relaxing but there’s one downside: packing! I had to go through my lipstick collection and choose what to bring with me and what to leave behind. Today I’m going to (quickly) show you guys three lipsticks I’m newly crushing on and couldn’t leave behind because they seemed perfect for the beachy atmosphere. They’re all quite muted as opposed to the usual hot pinks and oranges associated with summer.
“Purple Heaven” by Exotica

This first shade is by a Barbadian-grown brand called Exotica. I recently worked with them for a photoshoot for their various shades of lip colours and as soon as I looked in the mirror and saw this shade on my lips, I exclaimed to the manager “I want this!” The lipstick is a beautiful lavender colour that might not be suitable for all skin tones, but I love how it popped with my dirty blonde hair.

“Faux” by MAC

Secondly, the muted mauve-pink of my new go-to! I love this colour for everyday wear, I think it’s the perfect pink-nude for my skin tone. “Faux” is a satin finish lipstick, a finish that I am now in love with. I’m not exactly sure why I haven’t tried it before, possibly beacause of my gravitation toward matte finishes, but I’m in love! I’m definitely going to try more satin finishes in the future.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creame in “Amsterdam”

Last but not least is a lip colour I’ve had for a couple months now. When deciding what staple colours to pack for my vacation, obviously the first thing to pop into my head was “red!” The colour is described as “pure red,” a classic matte red that is suitable for anyone. I wouldn’t say this product is my favourite red, but the reason I decided to bring it along on vacation is how lightweight the formula is. I feels like you’ve got nothing on!

What’s your favourite summer shade?

Hello lovelies! I introduce to you the inaugural hair post of Island Myst! I’ve had so many requests for posts on hair and I (finally) had some free time and decided to do a small one. This is a really easy hair mask that you can use before washing your hair or just to add some extra shine.

What You’ll Need (and no, we’re not making a salad dressing):

  • 2 tablespoons of honey (I used raw, unprocessed honey)
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil

The recipe is easy enough, just combine the ingredients in a bowl or cup. (You might want to double the recipe if you have longer or more difficult hair).

Apply the mixture to dry, unwashed hair. Start at the roots and finger comb it to the ends of your hair. You can also use a wide-tooth comb if your hair isn’t as tightly coiled as mine.

If you have any of the mixture left over, you could soak your ends so they get a double whammy of the pre-poo goodness. You might get a bit sticky during this process so I suggest you do it over a sink, in the bathtub or outside so you don’t get it all over the floor as well.

Throw your hair into a messy bun and find something to do for 30 to 60 minutes (at this point I’d watch a good Netflix show) . I left it in for roughly 45 minutes. Finally, rinse out the mixture with warm water, wash with your favourite moisturizing shampoo and condition. If you use conditioner to wash your hair, that’s fine, just follow your regular wash routine.

This pre-poo protects you strands from harsh shampoos and leaves hair soft and silky.
TA-DA! Here are the after photos (hair dried and oiled):

Please note that I am not a hair specialist and these are just personal hair care tips that I follow. How was that for my first hair post? If you have any recommendations/concerns please leave a comment and I’ll respond as soon as possible. Also, let me know if you’ve tried this or if you plan to!
